• Fraud by a major bank against its Client

Summary: Ahli United Bank fraudulently claimed I had obtained a loan from them in 2008 for "home renovations". This kind of loan is only available to people who own property. Only Kuwaiti citizens can own property in Kuwait, ex-pats like me must rent. They persecuted me through corrupt courts and got a legal ban preventing me travelling outside Kuwait until I had "repaid" the "loan". I was not even allowed to attend my father's funeral in Egypt.

Why did they do this? Revenge. The bank and Al-Mulla were furious I had complained about the unauthorised release of my bank statements and just wanted to hurt me. So, they made this up, maybe hoping they would grind me into submission. No chance of that.

    In More Detail

When I caused trouble for AUB because of the illegal way they released my bank statements to Al-Mulla, they retaliated by fabricating a fraud against me: they said that in 2008 I had borrowed 4,500 KWD (around 12,000 Euro) from them.

    Here are the facts:

    1. AUB said I borrowed the money in February 2008 and that I did not pay a single installment but, apparently, they only remembered this in 2010, after I complained about my bank statements.
    2. AUB said I borrowed the money as a “property construction or improvement loan”. However, only Kuwaiti citizens are allowed to own property in Kuwait. Ex-pats such as I are only allowed to rent and so I can never own property to qualify for the loan. The loan papers the bank gave the court said a condition of the loan was that within 30 days of approval (so, by March 2008 according to the AUB story), I must submit documentary evidence of the property project. Nothing was said about the absence of any property.
    3. The loan documents included a health insurance policy – that was never issued. It had incorrect data for my weight, my height and my health condition.
    4. In the course of the court proceedings they started against me, AUB produced two different versions of the loan contract they said I signed. The two were contradictory and had different terms and conditions. They never explained this.
    5. I asked the court to refer the contracts the bank produced to expert analysis for forgery of my signature. The court refused without giving a reason.
